A soldier fell on the battlefield
Blood reddening the soil beneath
Shell’s, mines cruelly whining, exploding all about
He, pressing his hands against his wounds
His heroism knowing no finite bound
Into attack again did he went
Holding the tricolor to mark victory over life
Bullets, shells, guns bothered him no more
His bravery caused a stir, his zeal set a furor…..
O’ hark, hark!!!! My hero pants, upon the fields did the giant laid down
His eyes went dim, still head held high
No more was he able to stand, no more was he able to breath
The memories of his family hovered around, he felt his nearing death
He clutched his hands, clasped his feet, parted away with a gentle smile
My hero’s dead! Do you all listen, my hero’s dead
His limbs are all frozen, his eyes are still..
In the smoke , people hurried towards the west
His farewell glance was purely spent
I had a look at his eyes, eyes so still, asking an unquestionable truth
On his eyes were his parting thoughts visibly engraved
“Will they ever cast from mind,
How a soldier died in war?”
